I can't believe I was going to leave Spain without traveling to Barcelona. This city is unbelievable. Incredible. Amazing. Wonderful. Spontaneous. Crazy. Perfect, last trip. Words truly cannot describe this trip. I am not kidding, it's a combination of Minneapolis, Miami, Las Vegas, perfect. It has the beach, palm trees, mountains, shopping, so much amazing history, wonderful art and so much more!!
I left on Thursday and traveled with five other friends of mine. I was kind of nervous because the majority of them were guys and I know how traveling with guys can be.. haha. Just kidding. It actually turned out better than I thought. (sorry not trying to dis the guys there :) We were in Barcelona for a little less than 4 days and I don't think we could have squeezed in more. The first night we got to Barcelona around 9pm and got ready. We went to a Cuban restaurant for dinner, great authentic food. Then we headed to the clubs on the beach, walked through the sand and Mediterranean Sea. The scenery was incredible. The next morning we woke up a little late considering we got home pretty early that morning.
We went to this market called "La Boqueria". Well.... that was the greatest & biggest market I have ever been to. The food was fresh fresh fresh. There was fruit, vegetables, fish, meat, breads, candy, smoothies, restaurants, tapas, cafes, bars, drinks…etc you name it they had it. FRESH.
From there we jumped out these buses, a touristic bus that took us around the city. There were two different bus lines, the red and the blue. "I swear if we wouldn't have been on those buses we wouldn't have been able to see as much as Barcelona as we did..." that was my famous quote. I said that probably 15 times throughout the 3 days. By the end, everyone was like "Okay Lynsey, we get it. Shut up."
On Saturday, we had to change hostels. We walked forever because we couldn't find it. However, we finally did, dropped our stuff and headed out for the day. We had lunch at a TapaTapa bar. I had my first Guinness, in Barcelona :) Jumped on the bus and headed to "La Sagrada Familia". I have never seen more beauty. My eyes filled with tears when I entered this building. It is gorgeous. “La Sagrada Familia” is the large Roman Catholic Church in Barcelona and Antoni Gaudí started designing it in 1926. To this day it is not complete and will not be completed until 2050.
From there we headed to the Gaudi’s famous park and where he lived. The park was gorgeous, tons and tons are artwork and structures. We climbed to the top of the park and could overlook the entire city of Barcelona!! After this we got back on the bus and headed to a Barcelona Fútbol Game!! It was crazy! We got our tickets an hour before the game, had some tapas and beer, and that was it! I am not kidding when I say I don’t think we could have squeezed in any more. The game was so much fun. It’s interesting to see how people celebrate, hear their cheers, and actions at games. Their fútbol is like our football in America, in my opinion. The fans were going crazy, doing the wave, singing and chanting. It made me miss the Packers and football traditions back at home.
